Western North Carolina (often abbreviated as WNC) is the region of North Carolina which includes the Appalachian Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway, this area is also known as the state's Mountain Region. Mount Mitchell is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet. It's an ultra-popular stop just off the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville, known for stunning views and fantastic hiking trails through beautiful, rugged high-elevation forest.

        The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. The parkway, which is America's longest linear park, runs for 469 miles (755 km) from Virginia to North Carolina, linking Shenandoah National Park (Virginia) to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (North Carolina). It runs mostly along the spine of the Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains.
